Perceived reality as memory, present experience, and anticipation of an event. Past, present, and future being the timeline in which we know our lives. Do we merely exist to experience these realities in passing or are there methods in which we alter our understandings of reality?
Take for example a patient suffering memory loss. They are unable to recollect a memory from the past. Does that erase the fact that the event occurred at some time?
A more relatable example may be when you reflect back on a childhood experience that was significant. Perhaps it was good or maybe it was bad. Regardless, it shapes the way you understand your current perceived reality. This may very well influence the actions you take towards your future reality.
This train of thought leads me to believe that reality is only a mere perception. A singular perspective in a sea of possibility. There is only perceived reality and no absolute reality.
How then, can we influence memory, or even the simplest of thoughts? Change must occur. Alteration of the current reality. A fabrication of a different possibility.
The wasteland of toxic thinking that brew in our brains, filled with mindless consumption and corruption of our authentic selves and childhood innocence. Propaganda fed to us from birth.
Can we change our realities for the better? New ways of thinking, new ways of healing. A new perspective created from a fabricated truth.
What is real? What is reality?
Real - some generally agreed upon absolute truth.
Reality - what one perceives as their real.
Rendering the real explores the relationship between the real and the reality. The nature of mixed media instigates the careful negotiation between these two. A photograph, considered a capture of reality, only considers one perspectives from one lens and from one photographer. The result would vastly differ with different equipment, techniques, and people. Layering on digital renderings, and other post-processing techniques further blurs the line between real and reality. The associations of emotions to an image, space, or object is only as strong as you’re willing to believe. Will you choose to be influenced or to believe in your reality?
